Monica Bearden

Monica Bearden, RD is a registered dietitian and award-winning author with a diverse professional background including clinical dietetics, nutrition science, public relations and nutrition and wellness marketing.  Monica is co-author of Chocolate – A Healthy Passion (Prometheus, 2008) and The Baby Fat Diet (Penguin, 2008).  In addition to managing NutCom, she writes articles for consumer and professional publications, is an avid speaker for consumer and health professional groups, appears frequently in local media and is an expert panelist for the United Soybean Board. She also teaches nutrition classes at the YMCA and to low-income minority groups, and maintains a private weight-loss practice in Tomball, TX.

Monica brings an in-depth understanding of marketing health and wellness brands as well as the ability to create highly targeted brand communications to NutCom.  Her years of experience managing multidisciplinary teams and creating strategic plans help her guide clients on how to maximize the value and effectiveness of their communication outreach.

Monica was at the forefront of the functional food boom, helping a fortune 500 company develop and execute one of the first multi-million dollar functional food strategies and plans.  All marketing elements were initiated and grounded in science. The communications plan included building the brand’s credibility amongst the influencers before launching mainstream.  Targeted communication efforts for scientists, dietitians, nurses, doctors as well as the media and consumers were essential and successfully set the groundwork for acceptance of the message, “dark chocolate has health benefits,” which is widely accepted today and continues to get coverage and attention.  Monica continues to work with the media and through NutCom, now helps numerous food companies credibly communicate their benefits to various audiences using effective and relevant messages.
